Remembering Dan Olson

Dan Olson being honored for 25 years of service to FVTU

The FVTU family was saddened earlier this month with the passing of long-time friend and former board member Dan Olson.

Dan was a fixture at every FVTU event for many years.  He dedicated over two decades to supporting FVTU and the cause of restoring and protecting our native fishery.  If you attended any FVTU sponsored event you were bound to run into Dan. Quiet, modest, and unassuming, Dan was always around, ready to help or pass along some sage advice.  From the Sportsman’s show to the banquet; river clean ups to veteran’s floats, Dan never failed to pitch in.  If you took a beginner’s fly-tying course from FVTU anytime in the past twenty years there’s a good chance at some point Dan was looking over your shoulder and helping you master the art.

Dan was an angler too. He loved steelhead and spent many years traveling to British Columbia in pursuit of that special breed of fish.

As the years began to catch up with Dan he slowed down, but didn’t stop.  Even if he couldn’t actively participate as much as he wanted to, he was still present at all of our meetings and events.  He was synonymous with FVTU.

We will miss him.

FVTU extends its deepest sympathy to his wife Jeanne and all of the family.  They are in our thoughts and prayers.
