Full House at Sacred Waters!

When you couple sunny, warm weather in March with a local fishing guide willing to divulge his secrets on how to catch springtime fish in the Flathead, you’re bound to draw a crowd. And we did! At least forty people attended the FVTU March general meeting held last night at our new regular venue, Sacred Waters Brewing Co. Local guide and FVTU board member Rob Weiker put on the show.

FVTU President Wade Fredenberg greets the crowd

Rob covered the gambit from reading the water and monitoring stream flows to rods, lines, tippet, flies and technique. As a bonus, he covered spring fishing on the Clark Fork and Blackfoot rivers too. It was a good, meaty presentation and anyone paying attention should see their fishing luck improve as a result. And, thanks to our new sound system, everyone could actually hear our speaker for a change!

Rob Wieker talks all things trout

Rob runs Montana Fishing Guides taking clients on the Flathead, Clark Fork, Blackfoot, and Missouri rivers. He has a wealth of knowledge and ties flies as good as he guides. As many of us know, a day floating and fishing one of our local rivers is about as good as it gets. Thanks Rob for sharing your knowledge!

If you haven’t been to an FVTU meeting lately you’re missing out. We’ve rebooted with a new meeting venue, many new board members, and some really excellent monthly programs. Sacred Waters are great host’s and you can grab a bite to eat while you’re there. If you show up around 5:30 on meeting nights you can almost always be assured of joining one or more of our board members for dinner to discuss whatever’s on your mind. We only have one regular meeting left before our summer break. Join us on Tuesday, April 16th for another entertaining program and a chance at winning a door prize.

Be sure to mark your calendars too for our annual FVTU banquet, coming up on Saturday, May 18th, at Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish! Traditionally held on the opening day of fishing season, this annual event is the highlight of our year. As in the past we’ll have both a silent and live auction with many top quality fishing and outdoor related items as well as our Hat Raffle, Compleat Angler Raffle, and the always crazy Bucket Raffle. It’ll also be your last chance to buy a raffle ticket to win the 14′ NRS raft, rowing frame, seats, and oars that we’ll be awarding to the lucky winner later that evening.

As in 2023, we’ve partnered with Givergy to run the silent auction online. You’ll be able to peruse the items in advance using your laptop or smartphone with all bidding done electronically. You can monitor items and bid without having to leave your table. Better yet, if you can’t make it to the banquet you can still bid on silent auction items from wherever you are! Again, like last year, all banquet ticket sales will be online too. Watch the FVTU website or your email inbox for an announcement on when ticket sales begin.

Circle that date and plan to attend. It’ll be a blast!
