Veterans Fishing Day – Part II
On Wednesday, August, 3rd we again had an opportunity to team up with the Kalispell Vet Center for a day of fishing with some deserving local veterans. Army vet and FVTU Service Partnership Coordinator Jim Borowski, was outnumbered by an all Navy/Marine Corps group of hopeful anglers. The weather was great, albeit a little warm, but the Middle Fork of the Flathead provided plenty of space and opportunities for our group.
It was a mixed bag of both fly and spin fishermen but with the river to ourselves (except for the ubiquitous rafters) there was plenty of room for all. Those with limited or no fly fishing experience got some basic instruction and plenty of time to work on their skills. Almost everyone had action (read missed strikes) but we did manage to land a few cooperative westslope cutthroats.
The Kalispell Vet Center serves veterans throughout the Flathead Valley and their Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, Adam Jones, provides them with a wide range of interesting and therapeutic outdoor activities. FVTU is honored to be able to help out in some of those activities.
FVTU tips its hat to our local veterans and looks forward to our next opportunity to join them on our local waters.
