FVTU 2nd Annual FAS Cleanup

On Saturday, May 7th, FVTU conducted its 2nd annual Fishing Access Site cleanup. This year we partnered with volunteers from the local chapter of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby, a grassroots advocacy group focused on national policies to address the climate movement. Rains the day before and the threat of rain on Saturday kept our numbers down, but those of us who showed up were enthusiastic and ready for work.

Orientation

Because of the smaller than expected turnout, we decided to focus all of our efforts on the Old Steel Bridge FAS instead of scattering out to cover as many sites as possible along the Flathead River. There was no shortage of work to do as the Old Steel Bridge FAS consists of over 128 acres on both sides of the river. We broke into small teams and covered as much of the area as possible.

After a couple hours of work we gathered back at the boat launch for some refreshments and camaraderie. A good time was had by all as they say.

A fraction of what we collected

I don’t know how many bags of trash we picked up but it was a lot. What couldn’t be hauled easily back to the boat launch was left in place and picked up Monday by Fish Wildlife & Parks.

Our thanks to Citizens’ Climate Lobby for helping with the cleanup and to Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks for providing gloves, trash bags and logistical assistance.

A big FVTU thanks to all who helped!

Mark your calendar for the first Saturday in May of next year when we shoot for our 3rd annual FAS cleanup. It’s time well spent and a great way to help out FVTU and the community.
