For over ten years Warriors & Quiet Waters has been bringing injured post 9/11 combat vets to Montana and using fly fishing as rehabilitative therapy to help them cope with their wounds. Over 700 combat veterans, spouses, and caregivers have participated in their programs.
The WestSlope TU chapter in Missoula has again challenged all other chapters in the state to see who can contribute the most flies per member to WQW. The Winning chapter will receive a Winston 9′ 4-pc rod for use as a fundraiser. Last year FVTU donated over 6,800 files to WQW. This year we are specifically seeking the following patterns:
Streamers/Nymphs

- Black Buggers #6-12
- Girdle Bugs (black & mottled) #8-12
Dry Flies
- Para Adams #12-16
- Elk Hair Caddis #12-16
- Stimulators #10-12
- Purple Haze #12-16
Pond Flies
- Ice Cream Cone #12-16
- Damsel Nymphs #10-12
- Midges #14-18
You can tie flies just for this event; buy flies and donate them; or dig them out of your boxes. Only those patterns shown above count toward the contest but we will accept any flies you donate. Flies not used by WQW will be used by TU’s Veterans Service Partnership program at both the national and chapter level.
All flies must be dropped off to FVTU by February 28. You can bring your flies to the January of February regular meetings or call or email Jim Borowski and he will make arrangements to pick them up from you.
