Take a Vet Fishing
On Tuesday, July 25, Flathead Valley TU took 5 veterans and 2 VA counselors on a fishing trip down the Flathead River in northwestern Montana. FVTU is proud to participate in TU’s Veterans Service Partnership (VSP) and conducted this trip in support of VSP. In addition to the fishing opportunity, FVTU discussed the nature of the fishery, the status of endangered bull trout, and what we as a chapter do in support of cold water fisheries. We specifically targeted vets who were considered most in need, those who would never otherwise have the opportunity to go on a float fishing trip. Both vets and volunteers had a rewarding experience and the vets even managed to catch a few fish in the process. But, as we all know, there is much more to fishing than catching fish and a day on the river, away from the problems and headaches of every day life is its own reward. FVTU is grateful for the commitment made by our service men and women and looks forward to working with our local veteran community through the VSP and engaging them in the TU mission.
