2016 Brook Trout Suppression Sheppard Creek
Greetings,
To aid the small remnant populations of westslope cutthroat trout that remain in the Salish Mountains west of Kalispell, volunteers are needed to work with the Forest Service to suppress brook trout in Sheppard Creek. The Forest Service has been suppressing brook trout in Sheppard Creek since 2001 and the Flathead Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited has always been a big help.
If you can lend a hand with this project, it starts Monday September 12 and goes thru Thursday September 15. One to three (1-3) volunteers are needed each day. Volunteers can meet at either the Forest Service Supervisor’s Office in Kalispell (650 Wolfpack Way) at 8 AM or at the rest area by Grouse Mountain Lodge at 8:30 AM. We expect to return around 4:30 PM to Whitefish and to Kalispell by 5 PM. Volunteers must have their own hip boots/chest waders, lunch and water. We will provide training and gloves. This work can be a little physically demanding but it is interesting work and a really good cause and you can keep a few brook trout for dinner!.
